dunno why i'm writing this

there's only one person that reads this really, and she already knows this. but this is a recount of my day. 7:50 - wake up. go out into the living room, check my email and what not, hear an awful cat noise. AWFUL cat noise. being a cat owner, you get used to hearing them fight and whine. this was not like anything i'd heard before. i jump up and look in the kitchen and find batman hanging from one of the cabinets. he has gotten his toe stuck in the handle and is struggling like crazy to get free. i do my best to free him, but it's very difficult considering he is a cat and is squirming and twisting around like crazy. after a few seconds i get him loose and put him down on the ground. of course he's limping. i look at his foot and his outside toe on his front right foot is TURNED AROUND. so i say... that doesn't look good. i let him calm down for a few minutes while contemplating what to do. i need to take him to the vet. 8:00 - put batman in carrier and get him in the car. oh, i put on pants too. drive to the vet, luckily, they open at 8. at about 8:30 the doctor finally gets in to see him. Takes a look at his bloody toe, messes with it a little. meanwhile... batman is being a total trouper... very calm... not whining... excellent cat. they take him to get x-rayed. 8:45ish - batman has totally dislocated his toe. 100%. every ligament torn. hence the toe turned around and flopping. 2 options. try and repair it, which includes surgery and a splint, 4 to 6 weeks of healing time, possible arthritis, and possible need for later amputation. OR amputate, short healing time, less possibility of complication, though slightly more painful in the meantime. amputation it is. 9:00 - i leave my brave guy there to get fixed up and go to work. approx 11:00- call from the vet, batty's doing good and he's all done. turns out he had mangled his toe SO much that it would've been impossible to repair, amputation turned out to be the only option after all. the doc said it was so pinched and fucked up that it didn't even bleed when cut off. i'll be going to pick him up in a little over an hour. i'm just glad it happened when i could help. had he done it late at night, or perhaps during the day when i'm at work, or anytime when i'm not home really... it's entirely possible that he would struggle until he torn his toe clean off. which of course would've made things much worse. poor little guy.
